Reception: Marcus Shriver a Photo Show

About the Artwork:

Marcus Shriver (he/him) is a Chicanx visual artist utilizing 80’s and 90’s technology to interpret current events blending the past and the contemporary. In the past two years Marcus has had his work exhibited in the Nepantla Cultural Arts Gallery and Gallery B612 in Seattle, Sarah Spurgeon Gallery in Ellensburg, Washington, Graphite Arts Center in Edmonds, Washington, as well as Black Box Gallery located in Portland. Marcus's visual analysis on local history and location in relation to current politics and culture creates work that is vibrant and poignant.

My work focuses on history, place, culture, and displacement. My experiences with displacement as an adoptee gleam throughout my work through themes of lost history and finding culture. In these pieces focused around the theme “New Beginnings” I am exploring the experience of running away to salvation.

Giveaway:

As a thank you to those supporting his first solo exhibition, Marcus will be giving out a short-run batch of special-edition small pieces to the first 25 people that come to the reception. Each 2 x 3 in piece is signed, editioned, and not available anywhere else.

A word from the Venue:

The Pacific Northwest has seen a boom in craft beverage producers.  But as diverse as the region may be, many communities have not been part of the craft beverage movement. Republic of Cider was born out of the idea to bring diversity and new ideas to the industry, and Washington State, synonymous with apples, is a natural for a flourishing cider industry.  By offering ciders with flavors pulled from diverse cultures prominent on the pacific coast, we are built on bridging communities.
